Last month, I happened to take two trips on two consecutive weekends. On the weekend of May 10 and 11, a friend and I went to Salt Lake City to watch Game 4 of the playoff series between the Lakers and the Jazz. It was a complete spur-of-the-moment thing where we saw that tickets were being sold for pretty cheap prices, so we thought, hey, we’re probably never going to do this again, so why not now. And we did. And, of course, the Lakers lost that game in overtime, so needless to say we got heckled pretty badly. The following week, I was in Chicago to attend a friend’s graduation. That trip was planned months in advance, and was much more enjoyable than the Salt Lake City trip. I’m too lazy to type up details, so if you want a really, really detailed account of these trips, leave me your e-mail address, and I’ll forward you a copy.

I need to learn how to be a better talker. Check that, I just need to learn how to carry a conversation period. The silence is starting to get uncomfortable for me.

It seemed like this day wouldn’t happen for a very, VERY long time. But the time has come, and I can’t believe it’s already arrived.
I have hit the quarter century mark in life.
I don’t know if it pains me to say that or if I’m still in shock that I’ve been alive for 25 years, but it’s kind of weird. I now have rights that I previously didn’t have, and if I choose to exercise those rights, they certainly come with more responsibility. I look at where my life is, exactly 25 years and 17 hours since I came into this world, and I still only have one regret in life. If you do a search, I’m sure you’ll find that post somewhere. While I cannot say that I’m exactly happy with the current state of my life, I certainly shouldn’t complain, since many, many others have it worse. I have a job, an income, a supportive family, a few good friends (you know who you are), and I still have my health.
I always like to keep my birthday low-key and see who bothers to remember, which is why I hardly ever publicize when my birthday is. To count, excluding family, four people remembered, but really, I wouldn’t mind if no one remembered. My birthday should not be some sort of spectacle, and I certainly do not like the attention.
I usually like to take things one day at a time, but I can only hope that I will be alive 25 years from now and still maintain the friendships with those who I am close to today. To those close friends, I say thank you for for always being there and allowing me to be a part of your life in some way, shape, or form.

I admit to having many pet peeves, which include people who are always late, inconsiderate people, those who don’t signal when they change lanes, etc. However, currently two of my pet peeves stand out the most:
The first is when people change who they are just to impress someone else or to fit in with a group of people. I find no reason to change who you are just so others can accept you and be your friend. If you can’t be yourself, and others don’t accept you for who you are, you shouldn’t be friends with them in the first place. I have a problem with people who aren’t true to themselves and are willing to mask themselves just to fit in.
The second is when people drink themselves silly. It is completely ridiculous that people get so drunk that they can’t even stand up. This is not to say that I have a problem with people drinking; I have absolutely no problem with people drinking, as long as they drink in moderation. My problem is those who get drunk every chance they get. Drinking is not cheap, they’re harming themselves, and to me it causes an unnecessary burden when they can’t take care of themselves even if they claim they can. I cannot respect any individual who chooses to do something like that.
A random post, I know, but it just needed to be said.

I would rather quit working here right now at this very moment than stay and make money by sitting here. I would rather be unemployed while looking for a job than being partially employed while looking for a job. This is how much I hate it here. So what’s stopping me from doing so? Bills. Plus my mom will think I’ve gone crazy.
Money doesn’t drive who I am. I would rather be happy and make little money than make a lot of money and be miserable. Well right now, I’m not making much and I’m miserable, so I think it’s time for a change in scenery. Besides, I’ve outstayed my welcome here anyway; pretty much everyone hates me here.

Hours cut at work from 78 hours per pay period to 50 hours per pay period (or 25 hours per week). Became a nuisance. Bored at home. …
There are days where I just want to move away… from everyone… from everything.

I keep having too many freak basketball injuries. Early in the 2nd half, I rolled my ankle, and at this very moment, it still hurts, so I am walking with a slight limp. But then… with about minute and a half left in the game, I receive yet ANOTHER freak injury. I was trying to go up for a block. I jumped, the opposing player didn’t. Once he went up, he went backwards and his head uppercutted my chin. I don’t really remember what happened after, but the next thing I knew I was on the ground and bleeding profusely for a good 10 minutes. I thought I was bleeding from my teeth because it really felt like my teeth got knocked out, but thankfully it was just coming from the lip. Fast forward 5 hours, and I go to the mirror to take a look at my lip. It was the most horrific thing I’ve seen. The wound was completely open and I was able to open and expose it. Three hours later, it started to close up, so I hope it will completely heal in the next couple of weeks.

What if I was the type that cursed like a sailor? It’s a good thing I’m disciplined to the point where I don’t slip, but if I didn’t have that discipline, oh man, things would get ugly REALLY quickly.
And I’ll just leave it at that.

Friday:
Arrived at church a little after 10am after a Fry’s run. Projector wouldn’t be coming in until the afternoon and apparenty the screen won’t be arriving until Saturday, so that gave me time to adjust the lighting on the stage and those mounted on the roof. I must say, being on a scissor lift and going 28 feet up is not fun at all. Any slight movement rocks the lift, and since I have a fear of heights, I was holding on for my life while adjusting the lights. Anyway, so the projector comes, and we need a DVI cable. Fry’s run #2 takes place, and while they’re mounting the projector, I had to leave to meet up with old co-workers for dinner. Turns out they stayed until 9 or 10pm getting the projector to work. It does, but something’s wrong, so I had to come in early on…
Saturday:
Didn’t show up until 10am again. Received word that the screen is stuck in Iowa due to bad weather (the screen was to be flown here; the plane was grounded). We discussed whether or not we should use a loaner screen that’s 20 feet wide by 15 feet high. After much discussion, we decided to take the offer. The screen was to be driven to our church and the guy would arrive at around 12 or 12:30. That gave me time to fine tune the lighting, which was actually pretty crucial. The screen comes at 12:30. That thing was HUGE. So we assemble the screen, mount it on the legs, and carefully get it on the stage. We put it up, but… the screen doesn’t fit on our stage. One of the legs was hitting a catwalk on the roof. Okay, so we brought down the screen, took off the legs, put the screen back up, then assemble the legs onto the screen. Once the screen was up, just as we were about to put the legs on, we receive word that we have a delivery. Our screen had arrived. That certainly shocked our representative from JD Audio since he was the one that received word that our screen was still in Iowa. So we took down the screen, disassembled it, unpacked the new screen, had a couple of people take down the old screen we had, and then we took a while to figure out how to assemble the new screen, which we finally succeeded in doing. We put it up, and it was a perfect fit. Well it was too low at first, then we raised it, and it fit perfectly. I had to go back on the scissor lift to adjust the zoom, focus, and positioning of the projector to get it as clear as possible. Once that was done, we put on Star Wars just to test the quality, and it looked REALLY good. After some fine-tuning and cleanup, 3:15pm hit, and I had to leave.
Sunday:
Arrived a little bit after 7am to do major cleanup in our multimedia / lighting booth. Formatted the PowerPoint to fit our new widescreen aspect ratio. Stayed for both services. Then modified the PowerPoint files for the afternoon Dedication Service, and made sure everything was going to run smoothly from the multimedia end of things. 3pm hits, Dedication service runs two hours, and everything goes without a hitch. Had some food after, hung around, then finally shut everything down a little after 7pm.
Friday: 7 hours at church.
Saturday: 5 hours.
Sunday: 12 hours.
And that’s the story of “24 Hours at Church.”
